Michael Avon Oeming (Pronounced O-Ming) is an American comic book creator, both as an artist and writer. He is known for using a stark art style to tell stories with sophisticated and mature subject matter.

Career

Oeming is a fan of ancient mythology, having written or drawn several projects centering on the Norse gods. He frequently collaborates with long-time friend Bryan J. L. Glass, and with Brian Michael Bendis. He is part of the M.O.B. crew of comic book creators, along with David Mack, Brian Bendis and Daniel Berman.

His 1998 comic book Bulletproof Monk was made into a film of the same name.

Recent projects include The Mice Templar from Image Comics which he has drawn and co-authored with Bryan J.L. Glass.[1] In an interview with comic book website Project Fanboy, Oeming confirmed that he is also working on a creator owned project, RAPTURE, with his wife Taki Soma for Dark Horse Comics.[2]

Oeming is currently at work on the third volume of Powers from Icon Comics with Brian Bendis.

Oeming noted for his arm wrestling fund raising for the non-profit charity Hero Initiative.

As of 2010, he is employed as a staff member of Valve Software, working on Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress 2 and Portal 2 webcomics.

Personal life

Oeming has a son and currently resides in Seattle with his second wife, fellow writer/artist Taki Soma.[3]

Oeming has won the Eisner Award for "Best New Series" in 2001 for Powers.
